Hello! I’m Allison K. Sissom, an artist and educator based in St. Louis, Missouri. My work is informed by memory, emotion, and my experiences as an educator.
I work in multiple media: collage, fibers, painting, ceramics and zinemaking. I often take objects that people discard and transform them into something new. For my collages, I cut up books and find novel connections that form new narratives. With my fibers work, I try to understand the connections between my sense of self and my changing body, as well as my relationship with clothing throughout these changes. My painting focuses more on understanding my feelings and thoughts, while my zines offer a way to share my ideas sequentially. The media I find the most joy working with is clay! I enjoy making art in all forms, but I continually find myself drawn back to ceramics over and over again.
